Occupational health medicals and abscence management
Sickness absence medicals and referrals
In order to run an efficient business, and to appropriately manage sickness absence, we recommend close liaison with an Occupational Health Service.
We hope to help you maintain a low rate of sickness absence by its active management. For this, early intervention is essential and once the employee has been off for an agreed period, we would recommend referral, so we can advise you on the appropriate action to take.
Actions we then could take would be to write to the GP on your behalf, arrange a telephone consultation or meeting with the employee (either here at the health centre or at the employee's home). Where appropriate, we can ascertain the level of rehabilitation required to get the employee back to work. We can also work with the employer and GP to arrange a plan of action to ensure the employee returns to work as soon as possible.
Injuries at work
We recommend that accidents at work need to be assessed quickly. We further believe it is essential to make an objective assessment of the injury particularly if there is likely to be any subsequent litigation. It is important to manage injuries and organise treatment (in the private sector if necessary) to aid a timely rehabilitation. Our occupational health staff can provide a diagnostic service and advise on appropriate treatment, liaising with the employee's GP to manage the injury in an active fashion. Active management should engender a positive attitude to aid recovery.
Chronic illness
Sometimes an employee is still at work but has one or more chronic illnesses. We can help you meet your duty of care by assessing whether any restrictions or adjustments are required at work, and whether any legislation such as the Disability Discrimination Act might apply.
